Hello! My name is Maida, and Im a rising junior at St. Johns University majoring in biology with a minor in chemistry, with the goal of becoming an optometrist. Alongside my studies, I’ve dedicated myself to serving others, particularly children, through various volunteer roles.

Key Club (2019-2022)
-Tutored about 2-3 kids in science, math, and social studies
-Connected with roughly 5 special needs kids students once a week through the use of board games and arts and crafts
-Managed and oversaw the execution of an 8-week winter bowling program for the Elmont Police Activity League (PAL)

NY Racetrack Chaplaincy (2020-2022)
-Collaborated with additional volunteers to watch about 15 kids from ages 6-13 through use of games
-Made positive impact on holiday events through the distribution of toys and organization of an egg hunt
-Oversaw recreational activities like badminton

St. Marys Hospital (2023-Present)
-Collaborated with nearly 5 other volunteers to brighten the lives of children, young adults, and families with mental complexities and special healthcare needs through fun activities, such as arts and crafts.

GallopNYC (2024-Present)
-Encourage children with developmental, emotional, social, and physical challenges through therapeutic horsemanship. Through continual participation, riders can learn to walk and talk, encouraging them to live independent and productive lives. While volunteering, I carry out the instructors directions and directly interact with the riders (lesson support) and work with barn hands to maintain the barn and horses (barn work).
