Hi Im Ilana, I am a freshman at the University at Albany but am home during holiday in Manhattan. I am right now a Psychology major with a minor in communications and have loved working with kids in the past. Working with a 6-month-old baby named Said while also managing a group of energetic 5- to 6-year-olds at a summer sports camp was an interesting and rewarding experience. Said, at that age, was full of curiosity and joy, always giggling and reaching for new things, making it easy to bond with her. Meanwhile, the younger campers were in a phase where their energy was boundless, but their focus was often fleeting. Balancing the care of a baby with organizing games, teaching sports fundamentals, and keeping the kids engaged required constant multitasking. But there was a certain magic in seeing the kids’ enthusiasm for play and teamwork, while also taking moments to nurture Saids developmental milestoneslike helping him practice sitting up or encouraging him to clap along with the music during camp activities. It was a unique blend of responsibilities, but the experience was both fulfilling and a reminder of the diverse ways children grow and learn at different stages.
