The primary goal of Great Expectations is to provide a safe, nurturing, yet challenging environment where children are encouraged to create, explore, and discover in a ‘hands on’ manner. Each child is regarded as an individual with ideas, talents, and capabilities. The development of a positive self-concept is also of prime importance, since feeling good about oneself has a direct effect on the skill-building and socialization process.
The School believes that children are naturally curious and want to learn. Experience in art, science, music, dramatics, social skills, and readiness skills as well as large and small motor development are provided. These experiences are carefully planned to help each child develop at his or her own pace socially, emotionally, physically, and cognitively. Respect and appreciation for oneself and others is fostered through this inclusive environment.
The atmosphere at Great Expectations is friendly and open. Children are encouraged to move freely through the various activity centers and to actively explore the many materials available to them. A definite structure exists within this informal secure setting. Children feel confident knowing that free play, meeting, snack, outdoor play, lunch and story time occur everyday in a predictable order.
