The goal at the daycare is to have fun, and provide a little extra stimulation for the older children. It will not be a rigorous academic program. Curriculum is not just what story is read, what art project is done, or what product is made. A large part of curriculum is playtime. Activities like crawling, walking, running, throwing, catching, jumping, climbing, balancing, building with blocks, stringing beads, drawing, painting, and placing pegs into holes. These are the same skills that are needed for reading, writing, and math.We carry out a routine that is flexible and responds to the interests of children. The routine includes at least thirty minutes of physical activity every day, child initiated and provider initiated activities and, weather permitting, daily outdoor play. We develop a curriculum that engages children in developmentally appropriate activities by planning specific learning experiences. The curriculum includes learning self-help skills that foster independence, opportunities to gain problem solving and decision making competencies and leadership skills and opportunities to learn about proper nutrition, good health and personal safety. We also provide an environment that promotes cultural, social and individual diversity.
